Documentary

Documentary filmmaking now makes up a significant portion of my paid work and spare time. I have garnered substantial experience serving as a Director of Photography (DOP) and, more recently, as a Director, undertaking assignments for diverse organizations and production companies. The following examples give a insight into the documentaries I’ve worked on over the last few years:

‘The Last Day of Legal Highs’ - I was hired by Pulse Films to shoot b roll for this thought-provoking documentary exploring the subject of legal highs. Coinciding with the government's enactment of the Psychoactive Substances Act, which effectively criminalised the distribution of substances like spice, this documentary delved into the profound impact of drugs and their widespread availability on the high street. I was responsible for capturing the B-roll footage and timelapse sequences

‘Just Hold On’ - In February 2022, I was contracted by Cinematica Media & OLCO Studios DOP a documentary centered around a former Team GB snowboarder, Jamie Barrow. The documentary chronicled Jamie's courageous pursuit of breaking the snowboarding world speed record in Norway. Joining the production during its fifth expedition to achieve this feat. While the documentary is currently undergoing post-production, the trailer above offers a glimpse into its compelling narrative.

‘Homes For Cornwall’ - In August 2022 I was commissioned by a housing organisation, called Homes For Cornwall, to create a 15min doc explaining why the county is in the midst of a housing crisis and what potential solutions could be. The doc was premiered at the Homes for Cornwall conference near Newquay in September 2022.

‘Ocean of Sounds’ - In 2022, I was commissioned as the Director of Photography (DOP) for a remarkable documentary that centered around the first-ever underwater sound transect conducted in the United Kingdom. Our expedition embarked from the southern tip of the UK, traversing the vast expanse of the seas all the way to the Outer Hebrides, meticulously collecting underwater sound samples along the way. Our primary objective was to identify evidence of an indicator species known as the snapping shrimp, which historically inhabited warm mediterainian waters, and could only be found in around Cornwall in the UK . However, with the increase in ocean temperatures, we discovered that these creatures have progressively expanded their habitat as far north as the Outer Hebrides. This groundbreaking discovery propelled us to present our findings at the prestigious COP 27 event. This Doc is currently in post production phase.

‘The Oil Fountain’ - In October 2022 to coincide with COP 27, Bristol based artist Luke Jerram created the Oil fountain. This film explores how the art work stimulates conversation around our dependency on oil. I have worked along side Luke and filmmaker and long time collaborative partner of mine, Jackson Kingsley, for the last five years. Together, we are hoping to try and make a feature length documentary on Luke and his work.

‘Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’ - In 2018/19 I created a series of videos for the RPO. I made player profiles videos for most of the orchestra. These interview based videos where accompanied by live footage of multiple shows around London, and weekly rehearsals at Cadogan Hall. I also created videos of specific concerts around the world and maintain a good relationship with the orchestra.

‘Samosa in Space’ - In January 2020 I shot a document about a local street food vendors attempt to get a Samosa into space. Niraj and I are working on other films together at the moment.

‘Bath in Lockdown’ - In March 2020 I started documenting the effects of lockdown whilst on my daily dog walks. The resulting film was featured on multiple news outlets around the world and has been viewed over 250,000 times across platforms.
